Baahubali 2 leaked scene may have done more good than harm

Director SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum-opus Baahubali: The Conclusion has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Just days ago, the IT Department raided the houses of the film’s producers allegedly for the possession of banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to the tune of Rs 60 crore. And now the film has hit the headlines after one of its crew members stole an unedited video footage of a battle sequence and shared with his friends, which has now gone viral on the internet.

Any information that finds his way to cyberspace becomes immortal. In other words, it is virtually impossible to completely remove the leaked video from the internet. However, staff at Arka Media Works said that the film team is working round the clock to contain the damage and officials concerned were not available to give a comment on the story under the given circumstance.

The accused behind the leak has been identified as one Krishna Dayanand Chowdary, a trainee graphic designer at Annapurna Studio in Hyderabad. The film unit found that he had accessed the server and had stolen the video clip in question. When the team managed to access the suspect’s personal laptop they found the video clip. But, Krishna said to have already shared the video with couple of his friends through a mobile messaging app.

Sources say that the leak was a result of Krishna’s ‘enthusiasm’ to share with his friends about the project he was working on. Who doesn’t like to brag about their association with India’s second most expensive film, Baahubali? His indiscretion has landed him in police custody and he has been booked under relevant sections of IT and Copy Right Acts. Meanwhile, the filmmakers seem to have not yet decided on their further course of action against the suspect.

Now the question is the extent of damage the film has suffered due to the leaked scenes? The filmmakers have been extremely vigilant in guarding the film against such challenges as a lot is riding on the success of the sequel. But, it is safe to say that the the leaked video clip has done more good than harm to the film and its producers.

The unfinished clip does not give away any significant spoiler that could have an adverse effect on the film’s box office performance. The clip was a battle sequence featuring Prabhas and Anushka Shetty, who together take on the rival army. But, it does appear to be a scene just before Kattappa would stab Baahubali in the back.

The unedited footage sans special effects has only raised the expectations of the audience. Unless somebody reveals the events that answers why ‘Why Kattappa Killed Baahubali’, the filmmakers can sleep peacefully at night.
