Prabhas‘ devotional extravaganza ‘Adipurush’ had a strong second day at the box office, with collections similar to the first day.
Mumbai saw good gains, while Delhi/UP remained flat, and other circuits experienced minor drops, mainly in single screens. The gain in Mumbai can be attributed to a recovery from lower collections due to a cyclone in the Gujarat area on Friday. Multiplexes showed stability or slight gains on Saturday.
After two days, the film has amassed a solid 72-73 crore net, and it is expected to easily cross the 100 crores net mark for the first weekend, which was considered unimaginable a few weeks ago.
Despite facing criticism, particularly due to its religious nature, the film’s collections have remained strong so far. The film didn’t witness an increase in collections on Saturday, but that was expected given its strong opening, especially in mass areas.
Despite severe criticism, the film’s collections are impressive, and it is on track to surpass the lifetime collection of Salman Khan’s Kisi ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which had an Eid weekend in just three days.
The upcoming days will determine the film’s performance, but the fact that it is achieving these numbers despite the negativity surrounding it is encouraging for the theatrical business.
